Jane Jacobs, the urban planning legend, has once again seen her name dragged into the urban planning debate du jour, in this case the Hudson Yards stadium controversy. Last week, architect Alex Krieger (the man behind Cablevision's screaming orgasm proposal) described his plan as sympatico with "the Jane Jacobs vision." Reached by New York's Will Doig, Jacobs says that isn't so. Nor is she a plan of the Jets stadium plan: "That?s an awful way to use valuable land in Manhattan," she says.
Meantime, Newmark & Company?hired by the MTA to evaluate the Jets and Cablevision bids?says both offers are too low. Will that stop progress? We're betting not. Winner later this week! Stay tuned!
