Gothamist paged us a few days back regarding the story of a husband-and-wife team, owners of the tenement building at 47 East 3rd Street in the East Village that they plan to transform into a "mansion"?after evicting the current tenants. So, we dispatched a Curbed correspondent to snag a photo of the place (above).
What's in store for the old place? Reported the Daily News' Lore Croghan, "[They] plan to turn the 104-year-old building into a five-bedroom, six-bathroom home for themselves and their child - with a gym, a two-story living room with a walkway overhanging it, and a bedroom suite for a nanny." There's even a rich irony angle: the wife's mother is Kathryn Yatrakis, Columbia College dean of academic affairs, who teaches an urban studies course about urban economic issues.
