A lawyer with Manhattan Apartments Inc. objects to our decision earlier today to call in our own Ethicist to answer a question from this week's Randy Cohen column in the NYT Mag:
I would like to point out that ethically and factually your "real estate broker friend" is not correct and printing this as such is misleading to the public. As a member of our real estate community, I would appreciate it if these types of errors are not perpetuated.Curbed deeply regrets the mistake. Truth be told, an offer of 20% above asking will probably only get you in a bidding war. Go with 30% to be safe, and don't forget to tip your broker.
