Report: Avalon Christie Crushes Spring Blossoms

Ah, spring. Flowers bloom, children frolic, developers destroy community gardens. Curbed source Urban Pigeon sends this report (and photo) from the corner of Houston and Bowery, where the Liz Christy Garden continues to cower in the shadow of Avalon Christie Place:

The work has begun NOW. TODAY. As we walked by the Garden this morning, we observed workmen beginning to remove plants from the walls by the garden while a woman (a garden advocate?) made a call on her cell phone saying something to the effect of "it looks like they are removing more than we discussed".More pix at Urban Pigeon's website. (NB: We think that's a stone turtle, not a dead turtle, in the first shot. Even ruthless developers have limits.)
