A special Curbed correspondent reports from the scene in the Village:
the roof fell in on a large building on the east side of sixth avenue between 4th street and washington place just before noon today and Sixth Ave was closed off for some time. Formerly the site of a Gap and a Woolworth's with a Karate school above, it was recently emptied and neighborhood rumor had it that a six-story luxury condo was going to be built in and above the existing shell. But as workers were gutting the place today, ka-boom. Guess they're taking it down now.Hey, citizen journalists, anyone got a photo? Cuz tips@curbed.com wants you!
