Columbia prof Lance Freeman is making some waves with his suggestion that, rather than being the scourge of the urban poor, gentrification is good for everyone. In fact, he says, poor and less educated residents of gentrifying NYC nabes are 20% less likely to move than other New Yorkers. We're too cheap to pay the $25 for the full study, so we're relying here on a recap from our favorite urban planning source, USA Today. Still, we learned a lot, including a new term favored by the anti-gentrifiers (many of whom remain unconvinced by Freeman's arguments)?'hood snatching.
