Lending truth to the rumor that Sacramento is the new New York, Daniel Libeskind's plans for a 400-foot condo tower named "Aura" in Sacramento (far right) look strikingly similar to the architect's plans for a 430-foot tower at the World Trade Center site (left, but, uh, still right)--what was to be the tallest non-freedom-related building at Ground Zero. The downward-sloping designs may be similar, but Libeskind refuses to acknowledge the Intelligencer's call of bullshit: ?The genesis is that they both respond to light,? he said.
That whole light thing seems to be demanding a lot of Libeskind's attention lately, as his design for another new luxury condo building--this time in Covington, Kentucky--also calls for a similar look.
