The Freedom Tower isn't the only downtown structure drawing its share of critics. Architect Enrique Norten's condo conversion at 1 York Street just below Canal (above), begins construction in July for completion in 2007—and some, of course, aren't happy. When one neighborhood resident dared to criticize the place—"It looks like L.A. landed in the area," he said—Norten shot back: "The gentleman—with all due respect—can have his own opinion, but it is a very uneducated opinion." (Norten's right, of course—it's totally South Beach.)
