Meow Mix Owner Lands on Her Feet

Back in July, when seminal Lower East Side/East Village lesbian bar Meow Mix closed after a debauched decade-long run that saw the place withstand at least one Ben Affleck appearance (filming "Chasing Amy") but not a crippling flood, we mentioned that the bar's owner was looking elsewhere for a new spot to pour the bubbly. Well, more than a pregnancy term later and still seeing red over her old bar, Meow Mix owner Brooke Webster resurfaces in a press release about her new venture, a two-level nightclub in Park Slope called Cattyshack. And while the feline pun-ditry lives on, the alternative-lifestyle exclusivity may have been left behind on the island for the big move east:

Brooke Webster, founder and owner of the legendary East Village girl bar Meow Mix for over 10 years, has decided to open up a nightclub in Park Slope. The new joint is Cattyshack - a 2-story club with 2 bars, 2 DJ booths and an outdoor smoking deck (and BBQ pit). Designed for drinking, dancing, shooting pool or just hanging out, Cattyshack is lesbian-owned, women-run, queer friendly - and welcoming to ALL.

A private party at the club on May 21st signals that the delay in opening (the website makes mention of an April bow) might be coming to a close. Brooklyn: affix dancing shoes! Full text of the press release?video games! sports! PBR tallboys!?after the jump.

The owners of Cattyshack have spent the last year transforming an old
warehouse into an awesome place to party. The first floor features "old skool" video games (Ms. Pac Man! Galaga!), pool table, internet jukebox, bar seating, TVs (for sports or video screenings), a dance floor w/ elevated DJ booth and movable stage. Upstairs includes another bar and seating surrounded by windows, a second DJ booth, a CD jukebox, and of course the fabulous outdoor deck.

Cattyshack has a great selection of drinks, with beers ranging from $3 PBR tall boys to a $8 Belgian ale, fresh juice cocktails, a great wine selection (including by the glass, 1/2 bottle, and full bottles), single batch bourbons, and a wide variety of both call and premium vodkas, tequilas, and rums. With a state of the art sound system and multiple rooms, Cattyshack can accommodate DJs/promoters who throw weekly events, plus special events featuring MCs and spoken word, burlesque and performance art, not to mention birthday parties, Brooklyn Gay Pride, etc.
