When André Balazs was asked how is upcoming Meatpacking District hotel would interact with the High Line, he said: "It poses technical and financial burdens on the hotel, but I think the goal is to embrace it." Well, turns out the dude wasn't bullshitting. Development blog Triple Mint points to the unique design for Balazs' Standard, currently under construction on 13th Street. Drawn up by Gluckman Mayner Architects, the High Line will run right through the hotel's perforated concrete facade, but without giving passersby any glimpses into the hijinx going on inside. If you can't beat 'em, build around 'em.
UPDATE: Or do what ever Polshek Partnersip Architects, who Balazs ultimately selected to design the hotel (the Gluckman rendering was just a proposal), decides to do.
