UPDATE: Alternate Whitney Plan Approved

A Curbed source sends the details of the today's Whitney hearing:

Landmarks approved the Whitney expansion this morning. The decision was unanimously in favor of the Museum's alternate scheme, which leaves intact a contributing brownstone (all the contributing rowhouses, actually), but does demolish the non-contributing brownstone and a small rear yard extension. The project still includes a small addition on top of the Breuer building (in part to create an outdoor gallery) and, of course, the "little tower" - 170' (9 stories) of acid-etched steel.
Tough luck for all of you who had "May 2005" in the when-will-the-Landmarks-Preservation-Commission-cave-to-the-
destruction-of-'contributing'-buildings pool.
