Has the vast influence of the funny pages and daytime television waned? Apparently so, if the starpower of celebrity couple Jane Pauley and Garry Trudeau could be so cruelly denied their desired dream townhouse. The Observer's Michael Calderone reports that the talk show host and cartoonist were recently outbid on a Beekman Place-adjacent triplex that was once featured on the cover of Architectural Digest. It had been listed at a reasonable $3.85m, but one unknown bidder decided to go a little above and beyond the call of duty. So what are the twosome missing out on? A two-story living room with 20-foot ceilings, a garden terrace with East River views, his-and-hers limestone baths, a dressing room that could have been perfect for making a TV personality feel comfortable (sorry, now we're just rubbing it in), more closet space than there is clothing in the hemisphere and all the amenities of the famous co-op next door.
