$70 Million Penthouse Does the Splits

Speaking of rooftop palaces, we always felt the Pierre Hotel penthouse?last seen commanding $70 million and winning co-op board seats?was a little too hot to handle, and perhaps, too cold to hold. Maybe we were right, because like so many chromosomes and atoms before it, the triplex is being split into two residences by owner Martin Zweig. According to the Wall Street Journal five rooms on the first floor will be sectioned off and offered up for $11 million, and the 13 remaining rooms on the first, second and third floors will go for?you guessed it?$59 million. See how that worked?

Interestingly, the Journal notes that Zweig has routinely declined requests to promote the apartment on national TV shows, thereby shunning all potential buyers who just love Star Jones on "The View."
