Towers Threaten UWS 'Nice Middle-Class Neighborhood'

They've made some friends among the Develop-Don't-Destroy crowd in Brooklyn with that alterna-bid for the Brooklyn rail yards, but on the upper reaches of the Upper West Side, Extell Development has residents in a tizzy. At issue: a plan to build 31- and 36-story towers at Broadway and West 99th Streets. Having already purchased the air rights (in part from?yes!?a church), Extell doesn't need further approval for its twin towers. "It's a nice middle-class neighborhood and we want to keep it that way," one resident tells the Daily News. Might we suggested some artfully placed signage?
