CBGB Update: Back Rent Resolved; Forward Rent Looms

Does the courthouse fun ever end? Yesterday, a Manhattan Civil Court judge ruled that punk icon CBGB doesn't have to pay nearly $100k back rent and should not be evicted. Huzzah! The club is saved! Uh, not exactly. CBGB's lease is still due to expire at the end of the month and its landlord, the Bowery Residents' Committee, has indicated that the price of occupancy will be steeper than the punk kids can afford. Still, the judge, Joan M. Kenney, called CBGB's, "the anchor of what has become the 'renaissance' of the Bowery," which has got to count for something. Can you pay rent in street cred?
