Just What Queens Needs: More Jets

So how close are the Jets to a new stadium in Queens? Depends on whom you're asking. The Daily News makes it sound like groundbreaking on an 80,000-seat playpen in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (on the former site of the World's Fair Fountain of the Planets) is just a matter of formalities, with borough officials saying they just have to hammer out the details. The paper doesn't mention until the very end that the Jets are also negotiating with the Giants for a new stadium in East Rutherford. Newsday has a more sober take on it, quoting Jets prez Jay Cross as saying, "We're not saying today that we're walking away from our negotiations in New Jersey. They're farther along than they are here in Queens." And the wild-and-crazy Summer of Stadia goes on...
