Redesign? The Answer, My Friend, is Blowing in the Wind

Is the big Washington Square Park renovation plan dead? Maybe, maybe not. The Villager reports that the Parks Department withdrew its renovation plan for Washington Square just before a hearing in front of the city's Art Commission? a nongovernment organization that reviews issues affecting art and architecture on city property. Seems that the Commission had some concerns about the designs for four urns that will be restored to the fountain. The Parks people are saying the proposal needs to be "refined" before the Art Commission's next hearing, in September. Activists are saying they've dropped their lawsuit and the redesign is dead in the water. We say: push. Check in next month, won't you?
