Ground Breaks on Philip Johnson's Urban Glass House

With the fate of Calatrava's Tower O' Penthouses decidedly uncertain, starchitect fans may be overjoyed to note that ground broke last week on Philip Johnson's final work, the Urban Glass House at 330 Spring Street in West Soho/ Hudson Square/ YouNameTheHood that we've mentioned before. Reports Lisa Chamberlain at Polis, "Apparently, earlier designs flirted with more adventurous geometries, but the discipline of modernist principles ruled the day. And that’s probably why it’s getting built. Annabelle Selldorf is handling the interiors -- 1,400-3,400 square feet -- who characterizes the the style as 'free of the sort of gratuitious gestures that masquerade as important design today.'" (That's a relief). Forty residences, from $1.6m to $10m. After the jump, two more views.
