Von Furstenberg Townhouses Back Up for Grabs

Have Christian de Portzamparc's boxes been folded up, wrapped together with twine and abandoned on the curb for an early-morning pickup? Diane von Furstenberg's twin West 12th Street townhouses, sold to young real estate magnate Anna Anisimova a year ago for $23 million, are now suddenly?and dramatically!?back on the market. The townhouses were to be joined by the French architect's "stacked box" residential design, emphasis on were, because Brown Harris Stevens has the property listed at $25.25 million. We feel there's more to this story than meets the eye (at least, we hope there is for drama's sake), and we'd love to hear it.

UPDATE: The Observer's Michael Calderone had the scoop on this in last week's Manhattan Transfers column, right below the gigantic Schrager/40 Bond story (you'll have to excuse us for not making it that far; we actually don't know how to read).
