It probably won't garner the memorials and tributes lavished on the 2nd Ave. Deli, but dedicated East Villagers were probably just as upset to find out that longtime First Avenue oddities shop Mod World is shuttering, another victim of the dreaded Mr. Tal. The store, currently in the throes of a 40% off clearance sale before becoming a full-time online shop, improbably survived for 12 years off of clocks made from cereal boxes, demented dolls and action figures and "Please Don't Feed the Models" T-shirts. It will be missed.
