Ask Curbed: Anybody Wanna Swap?

Save that week in late '99 when we were struck with a moment of Y2K fear and greed, we've never considered skipping town and handing our apartment keys to strangers for a brief stay. But it doesn't seem like an absurd idea, especially if you get something on the other end -- and you've got one of those bodily-fluid-finding light sensors. A Curbed reader considering a swap wants to know what you think of the idea. She writes,

I'm wondering what your readers think about apartment swaps. There are always lots of Europeans on Craig's list, for example, eager to swap their deluxe apartments for their equivalents in NY for short vacations. Have people run into problems with co-op boards when doing swaps? What other kinds of problems are invovled?
