Yet Another Building Collapse in East Village

A building at 23 Second Avenue collapsed early last night leaving eight residents homeless. "Fire officials said a piece of the floor and two stairs collapsed" and "engineers are looking into a construction site next door." The construction site is phase two of the Beast on Houston, Avalon Bowery. A tipster digs a bit deeper: "I checked the NYC DOB website and found that the latest C of O is from 1937 and for commercial residency only. So the landlord had people illegally living there. Probably not that uncommon, but very problematic."
