That rendering to the right is the verdant version of Queens Plaza (that hideous place where the 59th Street Bridge puts you in Queens) that may come to pass sometime around 2009. The Queens Ledger reports that there's going to be a lot of rebuilding going on, including moving streets to create open space, presumably to make the spot more attractive for the condo towers that developers are starting to build. The $22 million project will include bike lanes, landscaping, public art, new crosswalks and something called JFK Park. A final plan is expected soon. In a related development, experiments are underway to see if trees will actually grow in Queens Plaza.
