It's too tempting to describe the conversation between cellmates on Riker's Island if the city starts busting and jailing builders and developers for "flagrant" construction and building code violations. ("Illegal demolition? No permit? You shittin' me?" Etc. Hold the jokes about housing them with trans-fat violators.) The Sun reports on a a proposal being knocked around in the City Council that would, among other things, provide jail time for some violations. The bill would also increase the fine for work without a permit from $500 to $5,000 and for disobeying a stop work order from $500 a day to $2,000 a day.
