Hyatt's Got a Mess on Their Hands at 485 Fifth

In the mood for some demolition porn? Then turn your gaze to 485 Fifth Avenue, the failed condo conversion that got sold off to Hyatt to become a condo-hotel. From the ground level, it doesn't look like much had been done to the building before the developers cashed-in their chips and ran. But a view from up top shows a different story. Looks like they didn't feel like sweeping before they ditched. Someone who works next door sent along some photos and a report:

A few weeks ago they (loudly) started removing floors from the top of the building, including these weird pyramid skylights on the roof (you can see one still left for now). I wasn't sure if they were just tearing down a floor or two for some sort of future penthouse, but a look down the space between the buildings and it looks like all of the floors are gutted and prepared to be demolished. So is the whole shebang being knocked down and rebuilt? 485 Fifth doesn't seem large enough in its current state to fit in with Hyatt's grand condos/time shares/hotel plan. More pics after the jump.
