Remember Williamsburgh Square on Bedford Avenue and the proposal for 28 highrises in The Burg? Well, this week's Brooklyn Papers says that former Rep. Herman Badillo, a key player in Quadriad Development, now wants to build 1,500 units of housing, a charter school and a college campus on the site of the container port on Columbia Street. There are a variety of proposals and visions for the property, including one that would preserve part of the port and surround it with maritime-themed shops, a 250-room hotel, art galleries and a park. One senses a big Red Hook fight in the making.
