Above, the current state (sort of, note the rising of BLUE) of the Seward Park Urban Renewal Area, a city-owned wasteland between Delancey and Grand east of Essex Street; a wasteland with its very own web presence. Just below that, Arquitectonica's vision for that very wasteland, with "ground-level retail, grocery stores, health clubs, and 20,000 square feet of community facilities." Not sure how old these mock-ups are, because the last we can remember, the whole shebang got shelved on the eve of 2005. Still, it's always fun to imagine what might have been.
