Demolition of the iconic Revere Sugar plant in Red Hook got underway this weekend. About a half-dozen workmen were on the site hacking at the plant's exterior. They are peeling away the building's skin before doing any major demolition work, at least, so far. We watched for a while, as the sounds of crashing, hammering and sawing came from inside the factory and workers carted away pieces of the building's fallen skin. The top photo is courtesy of a tipster who photographed workers actually climbing the cone. Developer Thor Equities won't comment on the demolition, but says there could be six mixed residential-commercial buildings on the site, which would need to be rezoned.
