That's Rather Hideous: 7 Essex Street Loft

With this, our third installment in That's Rather Hideous, the new Curbed series chronicling questionable interior design decisions seen in real estate listings, we're faced with something of a dilemma. The fact that a reader sent along this listing at 7 Essex Street on the Lower East Side (a long-ago Development Du Jour) means someone finds it hideous. Yet we're oddly drawn to it. Seriously, who installs tin ceilings in their new-development loft? Genius. And the art, while somewhat debatable, is at least unique; that stacked-box white thing would look right at home on the Bowery. Asking $1.3 million for a 2BR that sold for $850,000 back in 2003. Open house this Sunday if you want to investigate first-hand.
