St. Brigid's on Avenue B Facing Demolition

Despite community protest and a protest website steeped in Bible verse, St. Brigid's Church, located at the corner of Avenue B and East 8th Street across the street from Tompkins Square Park, will face the wrecking ball. The Post reports that on Friday, a judge denied a bid to block the Archdiocese of New York's plans to raze the 157-year-old church, one of the oldest Roman Catholic churches in NYC.

The archdiocese says the church needs to be torn down because the structure is in danger of collapsing. (We all know how those situations can go.) No plans for the site have been announced.
