Incredible Shrinking Synagogue Update: Ashes to Ashes

When last we saw the incredible shrinking Rivington Street Synagogue, most of its brick facade still towered over Teany across the street. By this past weekend, though, it was in further decline, as documented just before the snows by Flickr user emilygeoff, who submitted the above photo to the Curbed Flickr Pool.

As of this morning, what little you see of the brickwork above had totally vanished, leaving only the first-floor plywood facade and yawning wooden beams far in the back. "Clearly not a prelude to rebuilding," the photographers note, and despite evidence to the contrary, we're inclined to agree.
