Leave it to Time Out NY to actually pick up the phone (or strap on some sneaks) and do some reporting on another bit of Curbed 'hood craziness: In this episode, the Cobble Hill Cinemas crisis. Turns out those who uttered the name Commerce in the same breath as cinema were not entirely off the mark:
The theater’s owner did indeed talk to Commerce [Bank] about selling the building. “They approached him, and he considered it,” [manager Mike] Fox says. “But he also wanted Commerce to buy the business; he didn’t want to get stuck with all the seats and projectors. But they said they only wanted the building, so there was no deal.”Another victory for ... celluloid over coin changers, maybe?
