Over on Second Avenue, the glaring decades-long lack of a subway line isn't putting a crimp in Related's style. The development gurus are putting up a 32-story tower of condos (right) at 250 East 53rd Street (across the avenue, and likely to block some westward views, from ThreeTen) and giving it an Italianate name: The Veneto. Look for "137 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments" when the sales and design center opens in March.
In the meantime, the City Planning Commission is looking into whether Related will need a "transit easement" associated with the proposed subway line. With occupancy planned for fall 2007, and the T train ready by, oh, our youngest great-grandchild's 25th wedding anniversary, the first group of residents probably won't have to worry about knicknacks rattling off the shelf anytime soon.
