Seems the past is continually plotting against the future down at the Battery, where MTA construction crews working on the new South Ferry subway terminal had to call in the darn archeologists yet again, after a third chunk of historical wall?this time seasoned with "barnacles and oyster shells" for extra zest?turned up in their "path of progress," as the Times puts it.
For Battery Park lovers, it means crews will be at work there through the end of the summer. For history lovers, there will eventually be a glass-encased section from one of these lost-and-found walls on display in the new art-crazy terminal. For lovers of peace and quiet, try back at the end of 2007.
