Diamonds Are a Developer's Best Friend

Wanna be a high-powered real estate developer but can't find your way through the door? Come closer. The password is diamonds. Today we learn from the Times that Gary Barnett, chairman of Extell Development Co., he of Avery, the Ariels, the Stanhope conversion, and the controversial "30-story global diamond exchange" on 47th St., used to be a diamond merchant in Antwerp. Throw in Shaya Boymelgreen, who spent some time working a diamond mine in the Brazilian jungle (!), and his insanely rich diamond-fueled backer Lev Leviev, and now you've got a well-defined career path. Best get crackin' on those 4 C's.
