WTC Talks Break Down; Freedom in Jeopardy

Ill winds blowing downtown, where late last night, talks between developer Larry Silverstein and the Port Authority broke down over who's going to control various elements of the WTC redevelopment. Charles Gargano, the bulldog Port Authority head, said the impasse would likely delay construction of the Freedom Tower. He also had this to say about Silverstein: "He clearly demonstrated that greed is his main motivation. Unless we get this right, we will walk away rather than make a bad deal for the Port Authority, the city and the nation." Don't suspect that one's going to show up on the zipper.
