The latest wrinkle in the Tower of Bowery's slightly hiked-up dress? No students, no 16 floors. New York mag has it that once some folks down at the city realized the project at East 3rd and Bowery was really destined for life as a boutique hotel and not going to be a big ol' dormitory, they told the developers to hold up. Like, seriously. Some of that height might have to be taken down in the end, depending on an audit. Still, work supposedly continues on the lower floors and hotelier Richard Born and co. are still whispering the mantra of a summer opening, which is, last time we checked, one short season away.
