Friends, it pains us to criticize those who are out there doing their own thing and blazing a new trail, but everyone is fair game in the world of real estate, right? Much ado has been made over the "Are brokers necessary?" question. We've seen a number of for-sale-by-owner websites pop up on the Internets, made by people who see no need in handing over that commission to real estate agents. Up until now, the FSBO sites we've spotlighted have all been well-designed affairs?interactive brochures that go far beyond what a single page on Corcoran or Elliman can do for a place (like this or this).
But as the fizzbow ethos spreads and more people give it a whirl, we're going to start to see?well, people who should probably hire a web designer and photographer if they're going to ditch realtors. It's not that we don't appreciate the choice between having an orange, green or yellow background, it's just that floorplans done up with a shaky hand in MS Paint really force us to work hard when it comes to fantasizing about where our chaise lounge would go.
