Inspired in part by that wacky new trend, "blogging in other blogs' comment sections is the new blogging," the answer for yesterday's Curbed BuildingSpotter comes verbatim from "Theodore Grunewald."
Gotcha! It’s 105 East 22nd Street; The United Charities building – now home to The Community Service Society of NY. Sneaky. If the photoblogger had tilted the camera down a degree or two, it would have been a dead giveaway ? scroll down to the 2nd pic here.
To be charitable, it’s not one of R. H. Robertson’s masterpieces –The New York Savings Bank –now Balducci’s at 8th Ave & 14th Street is a sweeter treat; [photo, NYT article] ? nonetheless it’s encouraging that 105 East 22nd is still going strong after 100 years.
Oh, and yes; the 92 in the cartouche announces not the street address, 105; but rather (splendidly) proclaims the year of the building’s construction (phase one, 1892).
