Upper East Side Goes Green(market)

Despite opposition from Eli Zabar and friends, Community Board 8 approved twin greenmarkets on East 82nd Street (between Madison and Park, and First and York) yesterday. Reports The Oil Drum, "While Eli Zabar was in attendence, unlike last time he didn't publicly speak out against it, but I did see him sign a petition against it in the hurried last minutes before the meeting." There's something bizarre but beautiful about that image we can't quite put our finger on. Still, here's hoping Eli shows up to vend his green roof food anyway.
