61 Fifth Avenue: The Early Years

Following last week's blowout fire at 61 Fifth Avenue, fresh correspondence rolls in from architect Edward Shalat: "i read with interest the article regarding the schrafft's restaurant on fifth avenue. this building was designed by our firm (originally bloch and hesse) in 1938. here is an original photo including an interior shot of the mezzanine."

The photos, as it turns out, look like, er, photocopies of originals, but they're still reasonably cool. The interior, after the jump.
