Down and Dirty: Another Brooklyn Car Wash Bites the Dust

After reading about the proposed conversion of the Brooklyn House of Detention into a jail with condo project, a reader emailed photographs of the site across the street, noting that the Atlantic Savvy Car Wash at the corner of Atlantic and Boerum Place has finally met its maker. Last we heard, an 8-story condo with 64 units was planned for the site, being developed by Renaissance Reality with AHF Architects. Interestingly, AHF's claim to fame is designing 20 percent of the nursing homes in New York State. Regardless of the age of buyers, many of them will have a primo view of the House of D across Atlantic Ave. Is the day approaching when car-owning BoCoCans will take to the streets with buckets and rags to wash their own cars? Say it ain't so.
