The long-term plans for Governors Island are still up in the air, but come October, the dormant nine-hole, par-3 golf course on the spit of land off Manhattan's southern tip will be seeing the likes of the LPGA's Natalie Gulbis (left) and Craig T. Nelson (you know, from "Coach") tee off in the Manhattan Golf Classic. Employing the same ingenuity that city dwellers use to host a dinner party in a studio apartment, organizers of the event will massage 18 holes out of the 10-acre course "with sleight of hand that will have golfers use certain fairways and greens several times, from different tee boxes, to create different distances," according to the Times. Sadly, it doesn't look like Calatrava's gondolas will be quite ready in time to carry all the Gulbis groupies over to the event.
