After a tipster helped us crack the code on the location of the gaudy Midtown East residence featured here yesterday—it's River House, a residence so private that neither the address (435 East 52nd Street) nor the name can be mentioned in sales listings—broker blog True Gotham rounds up the architectural history of the place, then adds this class conscious touch:
I was once asked by a selling broker in the buiding if my clients were "WASPS" or "Jews." No idea if the broker was speaking for herself or the board, but it was definitely not typical in any case. As it turns out, my clients were neither, and didn't wish to proceed with that purchase anyway--but I would love to have known how their religious affiliation would have affected the purchase.· Life in the River House [True Gotham]
