Cue the gnashing teeth of big-box retail: the Capitol Fishing Tackle Co., reputed to be the oldest fish and tackle store in existence, must vacate its perch on the ground level of the Chelsea Hotel by August 1, Lois Weiss reports. "The firm, established in 1862 in Germany, relocated to America in 1897 and to the Chelsea in 1962. Current owner, Richard Collins, bought it in 1974 after working there as a salesman." The store will move to 132 West 36th St., while the open space left behind will let the Chelsea Hotel form "one large retail unit."
