BREAKING: Developer Set to Denude CHARAS/El Bohio

Breaking (no, really) news concerning the much-contested CHARAS/El Bohio building (né P.S. 64) at Avenue B and 9th Street. Developer Gregg Singer says he'll begin scraping the architecturally significant elements off the facade as early as tomorrow, the Sun's David Lombino reports. The move is direct defiance of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, which voted to designate the building a landmark yesterday. No question, Singer's got verve:

Mr. Singer said that without the architectural details, a judge would be more likely to reverse the commission's decision. "The law says you can not landmark to stop development," Mr. Singer said. "A judge will look at the building and say there is nothing redeemable about the building."Oh, baby, it is captial O capital N ON. Who's got some time tomorrow to snag photographs or video of what looks to be an epic showdown? The many citizens of Curbed Nation thank you in advance.
