Rumblings & Bumblings: Playgrounds and Sweat Socks

If it's Tuesday, and there's development, there'll be Rumblings & Bumblings. The questions below were submitted by real, live Curbed readers. Answers, more questions, and hot digital photography to tips@curbed.com?or in the comments below.

1) Midtown East: "I noticed 4 workers putting wire fence complete with poles cemented into the ground around the open park (see the attached photo from a few years ago with barren trees) at 59th and 2nd, right at the base of the Roosevelt Island Tram. I'm hoping that plot of land isn't giving away to another building; any information?" Whaddya say, tram reno or something more?
2) East Village: "construction (excavation) has begun on a 100 X 100 (or so) sq ft here that has been an empty lot for years..... it's a nice space directly accross from the Sauer Playgorund and the big community garden "El Sol Brillante." Will it be rentals? a cookie cutter condo NYU student trap? $2 million dollar apt's or something with some intriguing character? Inquiring minds want to know!"
3) West Village: "Does anyone know what happened to the Stinky Sock Laundry on W 4th between W 11th and Perry? Have anyone else's clothes been kidnapped, too? Mysteries of the wash and fold..." Curbed, doing the wash since 2004.
