'Bout time we had a little backlash on the Morgan Library & Museum, which reopened this spring, all RePiano-ized and stuff. John Massengale the recovering architect of Veritas et Venustas delivers the goods via the "service entrance."
The mind might try to convince the visitor that this is an elegant, minimal design ... The senses say the architecture is cold, sterile, boring and maybe even anal-retentive and asexual. Architect Renzo Piano is apparently such a minimalist that he can't bring himself to add something as obvious as a canopy to announce the entry (left) and keep the rain and sun off the visitor. That's the way we do it in New York, where visitors frequently arrive at the curb in a taxi.
Somebody get this man a canopy ASAP!
