Red Hook Residents Take to the Streets...to Get a Stop Sign

[Photo courtesy of the Brooklyn Record]

Red Hook may be red hot, but if the nabe wants a stop sign installed or a crosswalk painted, well, that'll require a noisy little demonstration. The Brooklyn Record reports there was a shindig last night at the corner where a Sunset Park woman was hit and killed two weeks ago by a driver leaving Fairway. One of demands of the protesters that briefly blocked traffic on Van Brunt Street: A stop sign. According to organizers, Van Brunt has the longest stretch of "unprotected intersections" (15 in 3/4 mile) in all of New York City. Coming Soon: Residents storm City Hall for a stop light.
