Red Hook Update: Before Ikea, Bricks and Rubble

We stopped and took a look inside the old Todd Shipyard property on Beard Street in Red Hook this weekend, soon to be home to the big blue box with yellow lettering known as Ikea. While it's not dramatic as the Greenpoint Terminal Market ruins from earlier today, the demolition scene features tons of bricks (literally), small mountains of crushed up demolition debris, the remains of one solitary building that is coming down in slow motion and three surviving cranes that will be used for decorative purposes. Even though the Shipyard's gone, opponents are still hoping to stop Ikea from filling in the dry docks for parking.
